Apple Hill, CA

On my stay vacation, I decided to get out of the house and drive up the hill (as the locals call it) and take a personal day at Apple Hill. Apple Hill is known for delicious apple pies (of course), apple cider, and Christmas trees. What is not known are the variety of wineries that are scattered throughout the area.

Apple Hill businesses generally open up the week before Labor Day weekend. The wineries are open all year, typically Thursday through Sunday. Boa Vista is open year round and is known for its peach and blackberry festivals that gear up for the apple season. The main site is High Hill which is known for the vendors and crafts. Other orchards have craft venders too, but High Hill is easy to find since it is on the main road.

Venders span the grounds at High Hill.

In addition to crafts, there is a fudge and ice cream shop, a stand that sells apple donuts (Boa Vista and other locations have these too) and of course...single serve apple pie! You of course can buy various pies from all locations, but not all sell cider sauce. If you haven't tried cider sauce, you should. It takes apple treats to a new level and is great on ice cream too.

For wineries, I stopped at a couple but I'm only going to mention one at this time since I plan on exploring the wineries there with my girlfriends soon and want to save my reviews until later. But if you get a chance, stop at Lewis Grace and try their award winning dessert wine Fashionably Late...its a blend with Muscat and it is lite, sweet, and not syrupy. It got 99pts. And if you look in the background of the picture below, you will see medals hanging from the bottle. They also waive the tasting fee if you purchase a bottle. There are a couple of other good wines there as well. I also liked their greneche.

While visiting Apple Hill, don't forget to get to take your map for Apple Hill businesses.
